Photographer’s remark
VH-AME The envelope of Hot Air Balloons has to be replaced after 500 flying hours. Hence, the RAAF Balloon has had a number of different envelopes and Registrations. In 2003 the RAAF was operating ten year old balloon VH-AME, shown being inflated next to Vernon Circle, Canberra City (bottom-end view). The Wedgetail Eagle on the RAAF Crest ‘Struggles’ skyward. The RAAF Motto now translates as: ‘Through Struggle to the Stars’. 28 Squadron had a Freedom of the City Parade that day, including an F-111 flypast. (Kavanagh D-90 Balloon VH-AME Cn KB111 was Manufactured in 1993, and First Registered in Australia on 16Apr1993.)
