Avro 698 Vulcan B2

Photographer’s remark

XM597 Rare gun-sight camera photo (rear view) of RAF Vulcan being Splashed near Darwin, Northern Territory, by an RAAF 75Sqn Mirage on 04Dec1968. The No 2 engine of the Vulcan is marked with the gun-sight Pipper, in this simulated attack after a successful Ground Controlled Intercept (GCI). The Victim was RAF Vulcan B2 XM597, nominally shot down by Mirage IIIOF A3-21. I was reminded of this photo by my rear views of XH558 at FAB on 14Jul2012. Photo uploaded for the Historical Record.
